Is your business card a flop?

Do you stand behind your business card proudly?

We have all seen it… cards handed out to prospective clients and then quickly followed by an embarrassing apology!

cardI have three words for you… ARE YOU SERIOUS!

Your card is the first impression you give of your business or company. Why, for any reason whatsoever, would you not stand behind it proudly?

Please do not make excuses, ‘I’m too busy’, ‘I don’t have enough funds’, ‘I can’t get around to doing it.’ A flimsy, photocopied, hand cut business card will not do you any favours no matter how good your apology sounds. It’s time to get serious about your business and treat it with the respect it deserves.

Firstly, a card without a brand mark is like a car without fuel. You can see it, feel it, but it won’t get you anywhere soon. Communicating the face of your business with its contact details is the primary goal here – your business needs a logo or brand mark… don’t kid yourself.

You need to take into account a number of things when producing a business card… the size, standard or non-standard? Weight is so important as a flimsy stock says only negative things about your business. The actual type of stock also needs to be considered – card, plastic, even wood are all possibilities. Unique shapes, embossing, foiling, UV gloss are just some of the extra treatments that will serve you well when trying to make an impression.

Font size and information are right up there with equal importance. Don’t get bogged down in trying to explain your whole business on your card. Just the basics and maybe a summary. And please utilise the back of your card, why not?… it’s there! Use it to summarise your key areas or use your strapline or office details. Maybe place some images showing off your craftsmanship.

So you see, your business card deserves the right to be shown off and stood behind proudly when you next hand it out.
